Are you Worthy of Love?

While relaxing in a German cafe with Erin I spotted this gem of a quote in the local newspaper. The words were read over and over as seemingly the author had us in mind when those words of love and devotion were penned...Never has there been a more faithful companion than Erin while I ensured she had much love and friendship. The quote was inconspicuously removed and slid into my wallet where it remained for nearly a decade. From that day forward whenever my wallet was opened I was reminded of Erin's unwavering loyalty, my responsibility to her, and the special creature that is Dog

A dog's love and commitment is a precious gift to mankind and they deserve the same in return but too often the dog gets the short end of the stick. Even when neglected, abandoned, and abused dogs maintain the ability to love and that says so much about the species as a whole...Their lifespan is short yet those days are spent enriching the lives of the human race so why would we not want to repay them. I was Erin's life while it's equally true that she was mine as my world revolved around her but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I'm confident I was worthy of Erin's steadfast devotion while these days I'm doing all I can to prove my worth to Cody!!

This quote which I hold so dearly was written with dogs in mind but it could easily have been written about cats, bunnies, horses, birds, hamsters, goats or any other animal that puts a smile on our faces. The animal kingdom deserves nothing less than our respect, friendship, and love instead of being a prisoner in a cage or backyard with little social interaction!!

Are you worthy of your animal's faithfulness and love?

  2. It's a beautiful quote and your post is very touching, David. Oh I do hope that I am worthy of the faithfulness and love of my dogs. I do my best to show how much I love them. I still think that we, humans, cannot equal the love a dog has for us, because when dogs love, they give their all.

    God bless, David! :-)

    1. Irene What you say is true as humans can never equal the amount of love that a dog has for its master. Canines are wired to love until the last beat of their heart where as mankind is moody and our love can be fickle sometimes. Based on all I know about you I'd say you're one devoted dog owner and your babies are quite lucky!! Thanks for stopping by!!

  3. Excellent quote, thank you for sharing. I too hope I am worthy of all the love my Yona has to give. She couldn't be a more devoted animal...My cats too, I worry at times that I don't give them back enough, they never fail to be there for me.

    1. Jan Deep in your heart you know whether your effort is good enough though I'm sure if we asked the Yona and the cats they'd say you're a great friend to them. Have a blessed day!!

    1. Arguably a dog's number one trait is its loyalty as I'm sure you've discovered with Fudge...They are special creatures!!

  7. Loved this post, David. Yes, I sometimes wonder what I did to deserve the unconditional love that Pablo gives me. We always seem to fall short of their love, don't we?

    1. Pablo is very lucky to have you in his life as you obviously spoil him rotten..you're a good Mom!! Despite my efforts to love my fur-kids sometimes it seems that I can never equal their affection...

  8. I'm not :(
I don't have an animal. I used to have a dog 30 years ago. I named her Tootsie. Her love for me was unconditional. I wasn't worthy of her love because I ignored her in my very dark hours and even feeding her was too much for me.

    1. Often ones actions fail to measure up but the circumstances are out of our hands. I'm sure Tootsie sensed the difficult road being walked and forgave you as dogs always do!! You were in survival mode and unable to care for another creature but that doesn't mean your heart wasn't in the right place. Blessings my friend!!

  9. A beautiful quote! We have been gone now for 2 weeks and I miss my animals. The people who are taking care of them posted a photo and our dog looks so sad. They are family and should be treated as such! Always with kindness, love and respect. Love the photos David!

  10. Hello David.
I had a knot in my stomach reading this post. As a former owner of two dogs, I can so relate to this post. The love I felt for my pets was returned 100-fold and they gave me much happiness at times when my life was not so great. They are no longer with me and I don't currently have any pets, but they have added a quality, an essence to my existence that I am happy to have been a part of. Your love and devotion to Erin is commendable. Nice post & quote. Thanks for shairng.

  12. David, I can hear the love and dedication you have for your furry friends. I wish more were like you. I see so much, just around our community, that saddens my heart. Animals kept inside, never to be able to run and play; dogs tied to dog houses with only 6 ft of chain, lucky to have a bowl of water, much less a person to visit with. I have always wondered why someone would get any kind of animal if they had no desire to spend precious time with that animal.
Your post touched my heart. Thank you for sharing.

  13. I think a person who can write this is definitely unique among men. they dont make such men like that anymore. loved ur thought. In fact I believe that the kind of animal we like reflects on the kind of virtues we appreciate. My recent post has an element of that in it. Hope u will check. Good wishes
